 Bike Ride From The Bay Area to Tuolumne County

"There are a plethora of great bike routes here in California . I thought that it would be a snap to ride from San Francisco to the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains . After all, it’s just a straight line across the central valley. When I went to plan my route using Google Maps I noticed that the only obvious route to travel was in a car via the freeways. What was I to do?
